Why wild boar avoid cade oil

Wild boar have a sense of smell estimated at 2,000 times more sensitive than humans. The intense empyreumatic odour of true cade oil is perceived as a fire/danger alarm. The animal instinctively avoids impregnated areas. This is purely olfactory and non-toxic: the animal is deterred, not harmed.

The pine cone technique

1. Collect pine cones (or use old rags, sponges or sisal twine).
2. Apply a few drops of pure cade oil to each support.
3. Place supports every 100–150 m along the perimeter, at 40–60 cm height.
4. Renew every 7–15 days, or after heavy rain.

Variants by zone

• Market gardens: tight perimeter every 50 m, renewed every 7 days.
• Vineyards and orchards: posts with rags at corners and every 100 m on forest edges.
• Large crops: space up to 150 m, double the oil per support.

Also effective against deer and roe deer.
