Is cade oil banned?

No. True cade oil (CAS 8013-10-3) is freely sold in the EU for veterinary, agricultural and material maintenance uses. Do not confuse it with coal tar creosote (from coal), which is subject to European restrictions. Cade oil is plant-based and not subject to the same regulations.

Essential precautions

  • External use only: never ingest. In case of accidental ingestion contact a doctor or vet immediately.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes: rinse abundantly with clean water.
  • Dilute on sensitive or irritated skin: 50% in vegetable oil on inflamed areas.
  • Wear nitrile gloves: cade oil permanently stains skin and clothing.
  • Ventilate when applying in confined spaces.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Sensitive animals

  • Cats: avoid. Cats cannot correctly metabolise phenols. Consult a vet before any use.
  • Cage birds: do not apply in rooms where parrots, canaries or similar birds are kept.

Storage

  • Hermetically sealed container, away from light and heat (5–35°C).
  • Shelf life: 3 years under recommended conditions.
  • Combustible product: keep away from heat sources and open flames.
