Mud fever (pasterns)

What is mud fever?

Mud fever (pastern dermatitis) is a skin infection caused by bacteria, fungi and sometimes mites that proliferate in wet winter conditions. Symptoms: thick yellowish crusts, swollen and painful skin, matted hair, sometimes lameness.

Why cade oil works

Treatment protocol

1. Clip feathers if necessary to access the skin.
2. Soften crusts with a warm damp compress 10 min, then gently remove.
3. Dry thoroughly with a clean towel or warm hair dryer.
4. Apply cade oil diluted 50% in vaseline oil with a soft brush on all lesions.
5. Repeat once daily until crusts disappear, then every 2 days for maintenance.
